I have been reading this forum for sometime now and have taken several tips to help make my cooking more consistent – thanks everyone for sharing. I am originally from North West Alabama, but currently reside in East Tennessee, about 15 minutes from the National Park. I am currently cooking on a Cimarron Deluxe, but have enough other cookers and grills to make the wife real mad every time we walk into a store, that the first place I go. I have been cooking BBQ for several years and we have entered 1 local competition. We would like to get a larger cooker and enter more, however no more than 4-5/year. I look forward to reading and contributing to the forums in the future, thanks again for the tips in the past.

Welcome to our little support group. My in laws are from Murphy, NC which I think is a few miles away from you. They are actually in that National park you speak of. Beautiful country!

Welcome to SMF Smokey! You're going to like it here. I used to go camping in Townsend years ago, I think it was Treemont Camp Grounds, right out side the park entrance. Beautiful area!

If you're looking for a wood burner, I'd recommend a Lang. I just picked mine up July 4th weekend. I've got 4 pork butts resting right now. Even on my first smoke, it was easy to maintain temp. Several people around here have them, built like a tank.
