Hi folks,

Looks like there is an abundance of newbies joining these forums, and I admit to being one of them. I've been looking at smokers for a long time now, trying to figure out which one to buy within my small budget. Amazon had one of those one-day-sales just before Christmas, and it was a deal I couldn't pass up. So I told "Santa" all about it. Sure enough, Christmas morning I found a Masterbuilt 30 LP under the tree - well - next to the tree.

New Years Day, I smoked some baby backs, then last week did a bone-in pork shoulder. Turned out absolutely amazing. However just like many other MB30 owners out there, I do have problems keeping the thing under 250, but I have not made any mods yet. I've read through some great articles in these forums, and I'll be trying a few things that many of you have mentioned over the next few smokes. I did pick up the Big Green Egg version of the Maverick ET-732 just before I did the shoulder, discovering how inaccurate the door thermometer is.

Thanks to everyone for all the great info!!

Glad you have already found some useful information. I had very little success when I started smoking until I found these forums.

Please post your smokes. We all learn by seeing what others are doing.
