New to smoking. Just got an electric smoker and attempted: chicken (medium and good results), salmon (good but not as expected), and baby backs (one medium and one most excellent result), and pork jerky (back to square one on that- tough and dry).

Welcome to the forums!  Glad you joined us.  You've found a great place to learn and share ideas on our favorite pastime...Smoking and Grilling great food!  Lots of friendly and knowledgeable folks here who really enjoy helping one another.  Just ask when you need help and you'll get plenty.

Welcome to the SMF....you will get the hang of it in no time if you apply techniques picked up here. It's a learning curve for sure, especially with a new smoker to learn the quirks of. The handy dandy search bar will be your friend with numerous threads to read through, with pics, about anything you may care to smoke. I'm down in Albany and there are more Oregonians hanging around as well. Keep at it...enjoy the ride and new passion....Willie
