This is first post ever on SMF. Was introduced to the site by one of my Sailors. I have a ton of experience eating great Memphis BBQ and baby back ribs with very, and mean very little experience smoking them. I tried for the first time last night and they were a little dry. Thank you to my buddies who suffered eating all the ribs because while telling they were great. I am interested in learning a lot more about smoking meat to eventually someday being able to provide the perfect rib, pulled pork and brisket.
I am currently deployed to Japan so what I learn here will need to be translated to another smoker upon my return the states. I look forward to the inputs from the great Pitmasters on SMF.

Howdee Chief, first and foremost........ Thank you for your service! I get the biggest kick out of saying that, you just can't imagine. Its like a promise fullfilled.

Dang glad you stopped by and hope you can hang around. It is usually a pretty fun place. Lets see, the search engine, its bustin apart with good stuff seriously, be specific in your searches its amazing. We have Guru's around here, you can tell 'em by there strips. Damn that seems natural doesn't it. They either have a Moderator tag or a OTBS (Order of the Thin Blue Smoke) tag. They are CPO's of the site. They know what they are talking about. You need something look for them first. Then there is the normal folks ranging in knowledge like the in the service and also we all love to stick our noses in and help and learn more while helping.

My suggestion when you cook look up a tutorial prior to and take notes, keep a notebook like an snipers kill book of what you do, what you like and what you didn't then come back and research how to change it or start a discussion. We all like to talk.

The Guru's will probably be showing up in the AM to start your transition into the site, its kinda late for 'em now on a Sunday night they been busy helping folks all day.

If I can help you chief, please just let me know. BTW there is no stress allowed while smoking, its a rule. So if you start thinking seriously about something, best to just sit down and wait till that though passes. Have fun, enjoy the smoke, and welcome to my addiction!

We love to see pictures of what you are cooking (or what we call q-views here at SMF).  To "upload the q-views" just follow the directions here and it will be easier.

If you are using a cell phone, an IPad or a kindle, go to the main SMF page and click the Mobile button. Will make the uploads a bit faster too.

If you didn't read the "Terms of Service" notes.....please do.  There are a few things that everyone should know about those pesky little rules before plunging into the forums and some guidelines of how to interact within the forums. Off site links are not allowed here at SMF per Jeff. Not that you have done anything wrong....just a little bit of FYI for new members!

If you need any help roaming around the forums....just holler!  Happy to help out!
