Good day all,
Just thought I'd introduce myself. I'm a self-employed 33 year old male, married, we have two daughters, 4 and 2 and an old trustworthy dog. I'm somewhat of an experienced beginner at smoking. My old boss smoked turkeys at Christmas for many of his customers as a year end "thanks for the business." I remember pulling our big desiel trucks into the shop after a long day of working out in the cold and over top of the smell of the desiel fumes was the smell of smoking turkeys. When I left that job I got my old bosses recipe and bought my Dad a propane vertical style smoker. We used it a bit. Last year I dug it out of my backyard garage and smoked up some salmon, pork sausage and some venson. I told some friends of mine and my old bosses son offered to buy this smoker from me for almost new price. So I ended up buying a new bbq, big enough to smoke in (the wife wanted a bbq more than a smoker, so we comprimised and I listened to her). I'm planning to smoke a small turkey before the end of March, schedule permitting.
I hope to learn lots from here and possible help any one I can.
Thanks
G.

My old bosses recipe is buried somewhere in my tool shed. I got to do some cleaning but when I find it, I'll post it.
The bbq we bought was just a large stainless stain, triple control, indirect grilling bbq from Home Depot, I've been playing lately with my rotisseri, putting a charcoal smoke box in the bbq grill and also looking at fabricating a charcoal fired smokebox to attach to the side of bbq grill. I still wouldn't mind just getting a new smoker altogether, and be done with it. A friend of mine suggested the Bradley smoker because it's so easy, just plug it in and walk away. I think having a propane smoker or charcoal smoker would be better because if my wife finds out that running a smoker is easy, then she'll be running it and I'll be pulling weeds in the back yard. It's hard to drink beer and BS with your buddies when you're pulling weeds out of your wifes flower garden.

Welcome, as a newbie myself, you will find a ton of info in this forum. I understand the wife part. My wife still thinks it takes 3 hours to change the oil.
I'm not doing anything wrong. Just chillin in the garage w/ some beers and the ball game on the radio.
I spent a couple weeks in Medicine Hat last fall. Nice area. You may want to think about a wind break. It never stopped blowing.
Don't forget to share the Qview.

I'm happy to say we've been pretty lucky around here for this winter. Since March 1st we've been above freezing everyday, usually by noon. It's almost pathetic being happy to be slightly above freezing but it's home. I've been using our bbq once or twice a week since the 3rd week of February. Something almost unheard of around here until mid-April.
Thanks for all the welcomes,
I look forward to spending time on this forum.
Greg

Welcome to SMF, Grogger. What brand of BBQ/smoker is it?

More importantly, you backing Edmonton or Cal-Gary in the upcoming playoffs- and if the Oil... will they make it in?

Hi Grogger....I'm from Slave Lake AB. Where ya hail from? Welcome aboard mate!

Hey badss, I'm actually from a small town called Three Hills. It's half way between Red Deer and Calgary and a little ways east. Slave Lake is nice country. I know a few people from around Slave and Canyon Creek. I also almost took a job up there about 2 years ago but I didn't feel relocating the family was that great of an idea. Both of us were born and raised in Three Hills.

Hey Richtee,
My bbq/poor man's retro fitted smoker is made by Centro. Never heard of them befor. It was on sale and seemed to have some weight to the floor model and it took two of us to load it into the truck, so I figured it was a good deal. I've just been rigging up some charcoal and smoke chip contraption every time I smoke.
But more importantly, I gotta back Calgary. Always have always will. Don't get me wrong, I do cheer for Edmonton, but only when they're not playing the flames. Hey how about your Red Wings? They're smoking through all their competion. They are a super hot team this year.
