Greetings folks,

I think I want to build a gravity feed smoker, but i dont know how the firebox is supposed to be configured.  It would make sense that if I can adjust the grate level below the bottom of the chute, I can control the size of fire, and therefore temperature in the cooker.  I cook at high heat for the first 4hrs then knock the heat way back for the next 4 or more.  I'm not sure if my adjustable grate height is the answer, but seems it would work.  Any ideas? I'm all ears!

Next question, does the charcoal chute have to be straight up from the fire grate?  seems there's alot of wasted space in the end of the cabinet that could be used for an oven of sorts.  Has anyone gone there before?

Thanks,

Lonnie
