Here's my smoke box after 4 hours with Mesquite chunks, and it's still smoldering...you can see embers in the shadow towards the top of the 1st pic:

Yep, I just tossed a couple small chunks in to finish the smoke on my chuckie, he's about 1-3/4 hours behind the 2 butts I'm doing.

Thanks for the post, Eric. I've just ordered a GOSM, and I've been reading up on Mods for a week, tryin' to figger out which ones to do upon assembly. This gives me food for thought. (pun intended!)

I usually gey about 2-3 hours on two chunks, depends on the size of the chunks and how much ventilation I have going. I've noticed that through time, I don't need as much wood to get that smokey flavor.

I use to have the same smoke box. I could only keep smoke going for about 1/2 - 2hrs. I then found a smoke box that is twice as long. I put a couple of chunks in and put foil over it, poke some holes in the foil and I get 3-4 hrs if not longer sometimes. Other people have cut a coffee can to fit, more capacity and quicker time to first smoke.

I have no mods to my GOSM and have had good luck so far. Of course I am a GOSM newbie so time will tell. If and when I do mods I will most likely follow the mods Travis has done to his.
