This is my first post and I am lookin forward to more to come. I have read through many forums and love it all!

I am in the market to buy a propane smoker. It seems that the GOSM is the favorite among entry to mid-level smokers and for the price its tough to beat. I have heard good things about the Smoke Vault 24 as well. Those two smokers is around my price range but wondered if there were any others people would recommend or which one would they prefer GOSM or Smoke Vault 24. What is the main difference between the two?

Also, the heavens above let a town close by in Maine build a Cabelas. I was up there last week and saw this:
http://www.cabelas.com/cabelas/en/te...set=ISO-8859-1

It has good reviews and is quite versatile. I already have a Blue Ember gas grill so I would really only use it for the smoker and seafood broiler and occasionally the deep fryer. Anyone ever use/have one of these?
Thanks!

Welcome to SMF. The one you linked from Cabelas looks like a Master Built 7 in 1 and while it is versatile personally I would recommend either of the other two over it. If I were choosing one it would be either the GOSM or Smoke Vault

As the owner of both smokers that your looking at I would vote for the smoke Vault 24" over the smaller GOSM unless you can get the GOSM Big Block and it was cheaper I would go with the big block. They are both good units and both are well built so you will be much happier with a wider unit of the two.

i got the gosm big block and have no problems with it, it holds temp well and you can put more than enough meat in it, only set back is it uses a tank instead of natural gas so you need to keep a spare tank, but i guess that applies to all propanes, easy to clean and easy to use

I have GOSM big block I bought it Bass Pro. I love it. Controls temp easily. Is easy on propane consumption. You can get a lot of food inside the big block. Just a good all around basic smoker.

I own the GOSM and like mine alot, but I hear great things about the Smoke Vault, too. I doubt if you could go wrong with either purchase. You'll like whichever one you buy. Good luck, and happy smokin'!

Like Jerry said, I'd go with the GOSM or the SV24.

I'm not going to try to sell you against either unit, they both seem to be good buys for the money. I will say that I ended up with a King Kooker and am really happy with it. Sturdy, versatile, and one of my favorite features is the side access wood box and water pan access. Keep the heat while you add water and wood.
Though it looks like some of those new GOSM's have that now too. Hard to beat those for the $$$.

I have a 24" smoke vault and love it. But I have a feeling if I had a GOSM I would say the same thing. The smoke vault was easier for me to obtain last year so I had tunnel vision on it from the get.

Regardless, i think most will agree which ever way you go you will have a good smoker!
