Pork shoulders are about as cheap as it gets at $1.50 per lb. You can also get whole chickens around $1.50 per lb.

You could try a chuck roast. Don't know where you are located but around here the chuck roasts are usually less expensive than brisket. I have done a number of them and they always turn out well.

Anything pork or chicken. Good sausages are awesome and quick. Meatballs and meatloaf are both fantastic.

I vote for some tri tip, usually not too expensive and it's a quick and easy smoke.

  9. I have two tri-tips on now. Shoulder clods and chuck rolls are cheaper than brisket for some other options.

  10. Is that the same as a sirloin tip roast?

Local butcher had 8-11 lb angus boneless roasts for $3.99lb.  They were still in the cryo vac packs so will hold well.

Wasn't sure how well it would smoke since it didn't seem to have much fat running through it to keep it tender.

    Thoughts?

  11. Nevermind... should have continued reading.  Lots of threads out there on this.
