Going to make a batch of Bread and Butter pickles

I make pickles all the time,  never done bread and butter but have made dill. limed, sweet, cubed, relishes etc.  Love them in fresh salads and sandwiches.  Good luck and take a picture or two for us.
 
I want to try some too.  Hopefully someone will post something that has worked for them.

I made some sour pickles.  They are like ones in a deli -- brined and fermented.  Turned out great -- even my eight year old princess loves them.
 
yup,,,don't have a recipe...I  just take dill pickles, make a brine out of vinegar, sugar, and pickling spice to taste, place in frig for at least a week(if you can keep your hands off em)
 
This is the recipe we have beens using for a while and the results are excellent!

Bread and Butter Pickles

(Hills family recipe)

Cucumbers, thinly sliced, 3/16”

Small onions, thinly sliced, 1/8”

Pickling salt
  • Alternate layers of vegetables with salt and pack in ice.  Let stand for 4 hours and drain afterwards.

Ground Cloves

Powdered Alum

Celery Seed

  • Bring syrup to a boil and pour over the cucumber and onion slices after they are well drained.
  • Heat all of the mixture to just below a “boil”.
  • Put vegetables in hot jars to within ½” head space and cover with syrup.
  • Wipe the rims with clean cloth and put sterilized lids on.  Hand tighten rings.
  • Yields 8 pints
