Decades ago, when I was in the Canadian Navy, my friends and I talked about going out doing something that made a difference would be the way to go. People who make a difference are heroes. These individuals made a difference and were heroes. It is small comfort for their families but they were lives that made a difference and I, for one, am grateful for their sacrifice.

I live in Colorado Springs, I watched Mountain Shadows burn last year, Black Forest burn this year, and my family and I are still waiting to go home from a unrelated day after Christmas fire, God Bless the Firemen and Women that put their lives on the line everyday, and thoughts and prayers to the family and friends of the fallen

My prayers go out to the families of our fallen heroes. May god bless them.

"When I am called to duty, God, whenever flames may rage;Give me strength to save some life, whatever be its age. Help me embrace a little child before it is too late or an older person from the horror of that fate. Enable me to be alert and hear the weakest shout, and quickly and efficiently to put the fire out. I want to fill my calling and to give the best in me to guard my every neighbor and protect his property. And if, according to my fate, I am to lose my life, please bless with your protecting my children and my wife."
