So im upgrading from my ECB and decided to go with the DB. I was just curious if theres anything about it i should know before I go ahead and make the purchase? Are there any necessary mods or anything like that? Oh and if it matters im going to get the non wifi version. Thank you in advance!

Congrats on the new GMG...those are nice pits!  I'm like you...wouldn't be interested in the wifi add-on...that's a bell/whistle that means nothing to me because I'm always close by my pit when there's a fire going in there.

I don't own a GMG myself, so no helpful tips here...you might give Justin (WaterinHoleBrew) a holler with a PM...he's been cooking on a Daniel Boone for a couple years now, and he's a great guy who's always happy to help out anyway he can.

Good luck and be sure to show it off with some qview!

Well, the GMG grills are so awesome that I could only recommend one upgrade - and that would be to put Grill Grates on it.

I have two - the Davey Crockett portable for the RV, and the Daniel Boone at home. Both benefited by the installation of grill grates - you can do a low and slow on a nice steak, then pull it to rest while you crank up the grill to 550*,  then toss that baby back on for an awesome sear that only grill grates can give...

The same is true on my Rec Tec. Those GrillGrates are a good upgrade for most pellet pits...They really radiate the heat and increase the searing ability of your cooker.

I bought the DB model last fall. Really love it. Holds temp just fine. Interesting - I've been trying the Jeff's Smoking recipes and the DB finishes them 30-45 minutes early.

I would question your grate temp vs set temp Mjohn.  If you are finishing that much earlier on recipes, I would think that you are running hotter than you think.  Have you ever tested grate temps with a Maverick or similar thermo?
