Hi my name is Greg, I am currently researching on what smoker to buy, I have a 150 to 200 dollar budget. Have read a lot of posts on here already and it has been very helpful. Any suggestions for a newbie to the smoking world
Welcome to the site Greg! That is a tight budget. Perhaps a Weber kettle. I don't think smokers in that price range would be very worthwhile. Lots of mods required to get quality results. Just my 2 cents, somebody else may have more input. Glad you joined us.
This is the smoker I just bought a week and a half ago at Academy Sports for 399.99. Now they have it for 249.99. I don`t know if you could go up 50.00 but this is one heck of a deal. Not long ago you couldn`t get this smoker for under 400.00. Here is the link: http://www.academy.com/shop/pdp/mas...ctric-smoker-with-window?repChildCatid=638908

I'm a fan of the weber kettle. Check out a recent post called "Tri Tip on the weber kettle" by brandon91, you'll see a kettle in action. He's got the ultimate kettle set up, I don't have a Performer like his, or the cast iron grill grates, or even the charcoal box and I can still turn out product like his. Its a cheap way to start smoking, and if you upgrade your smoker down the road you still have the kettle for grillin. No wrong decision here just lots of great choices, good luck with the hunt.
