Hey everyone! New here! I've been wanting to start smoking and making some awesome meals. So I decided to purchase my first smoker! After much research, I decided to go with the Char-Broil Vertical Propane smoker ( From what I've seen, people do like this smoker with a couple of small changes made to it (water tray, thermometer, etc).

My question for you all is what would you recommend for a beginner? Cook books? Rubs? Wood Chips? Anything is helpful! I have never done it before, but want to make sure I do it right when I start my smoker up for the first time.

I recommend you forget the whole idea! You're going to gain 20 lbs., spend all your free time either on this site or cooking,& the smell alone is going to make friends of people you didn't even know lived near you, so no more quiet meals alone! Always a party!

Jeff (@TulsaJeff  ) puts out some of the best info for beginners. You can take his 5-day e-course here or buy his cook book. Both will give you all the basic info you need to get started.
  4. Where do you live?    That might get some people who know the area to tell you what's good locally for chips and other stuff.    [IMG]

bmaddox is right on. Jeff also has a great rub and sauce recipe that you can purchase on this site. Also the proceeds go to support our site.

Good luck, you're in the right place. There are lots of folks here who are always ready to share their ideas and tips. All you have to do is ask. Joe

Purchased my smoker! Should be here over the weekend. Additionally, I picked up Jeff's Recipe book from Amazon, as well as the Maverick 732 thermometer.

Can't wait to do Beer Can Chicken as my first smoke!!
