Hello all, i am trying to get all the materials together for a 250 gallon reverse trailer smoker and am just wondering what the general weight will be for a basic 250 and a fire box? I want to get a trailer first and need to know a load that the trailer will have to carry.

That is a tough one to answer without knowing the thickness of the plate you are going to use, racks, etc. Your tank alone should weigh close to 700lbs. Toss in another 200 - 300 lbs for the firebox and about the same for the RF plate. I would still add another 500 - 600 lbs to that number just to give yourself some wiggle room.

The weight of the tank varies a bit depending on the manufacturer. check out this link.

They start around 470 and some can weight up to 670. Then to calculate the weight of the steel you will add to it, a good rule of thumb is that a piece of steel that is 12 inches by 12 inches by 1 inch thick weights 40 pounds. So 12" x 12" x 1/4" is 10 pounds. Pay special attention to figuring out were the center of this combined weight will be so that you end up with at least 100 pounds more weight in front of the axle than behind.

Hope this helps.
