I've been paying $1.69-$1.89 for butts and $1.99-$2.69 for spares, not counting any sales I run across. Now, I have spoken with an acquaintance who says he can get me case lots at $1.00 and $1.46, respectively.

Is this a decent deal, or are there other places I might do better? I have not checked places like Sam's or Costco, and don't know if they "enhance" their meat. This is not for a business, and I have no tax number. This is mainly because I love spares and am making more sausage. I don't mind buying a case at a time.

You should be able to get Butts on sale for about 99cents to $1.09 per pound. That price for spares is about right. $1.46 for a 30# box of spare ribs is pretty good.

Here in Billings, you can get a pair of very nice 7-lb buts cryopacked for $1.39/lb at Costco. Not a sale price. Just their price right now. They're not enhanced with a solution. Nice pieces of meat (not that I'm an expert). Spares at Costco are @1.99.

I've always found that the quality of meat at Costco is far better than the grocery chains we have (Albertsons, etc.) and generally better than the local meat shops in town. But that's just my experience here.

At Sam's last Sunday I paid $1.28lb. for a two-butt pack:

Spares here run $1.99 to $2.99lb, so both prices are very good! Wish I could find a wholesaler here who offered such good pricing!

Today at Sam's Club here, butts are $1.38 and I think the spares were $1.78. That's their everyday price.

Hell that is what I pay at Sam's. I would want to see the product before I commit to anything, but it sounds like a deal to me.

In Central Ca here. I buy meat on sale ONLY. I pay 0.99 to 1.09 for butts. Ribs go for 1.29 to 1.79. Again, sale prices only. I have a mom and pop grocery that carries good pork. Whole chix are usually 0.99 and thighs go for 1.09. Beef is more pricey, but nothing new there.

Sam's Prices not on sale or case price
Butts 1.21
brisket 1.46
spares 1.78
baby back 2.74
loins 1.99

Case prices and sales run MUCH lower, and NONE of it is ehanced

Just asked my wife about this. She says we have a sale going in a nearby town for $0.99/lb for butts (normally $1.79-$1.99) and $1.99 for Baby Backs (normally $3.99). Spares are @ $1.99 also...I think we'll skip them, as they are normally a bit less @ Sam's.
