Gear reduction for rotiss.

I have several old commercial dryer motors i have been thinking about using on a home built rotiss. Any suggestions or has anybdy else attempted this. I would imagine I will need to come up with a plan to slow down this gear box thru some sprockets? Thanks guys.

Have seen both motorcycle and 10 speed gear trains used. Or pullies as well.

keep it simple just find ya a small gear motor for this ap. would be lest of a out of pocket cost some where there are some pics of a meat grinder i built with one if cant find em pm me and i will send em to ya i got some and your not to far away

I'll go along with you and rich, I'd use some pulleys and belts to slower down some. If yer handy (you must be, otherwise you wouldn't be thinkin this) shouldn't be to hard to build. Good luck, just keep yer fingers outa the belts!

You know, this topic comes up from time to time, and while I have no real input into it, it always reminds me of sending new kids around at boy scout camp looking for bacon stretchers and left handed smoke shifters, or some other mythical object.

EDIT: not that I think a gear reduction drive is mythical, just seems funny to me at times.

there is a formula to figure out what size pulleys or sprockets that you need but I do not have it right now. I built a rotisserie last year to roast a pig but I used a gear reduction of 60 to 1 and still had to use a chain and sprockets to slow it down to around 3 1/2 rpm

Yeah rich thats a great idea, put that 10 speed sprocket set up on there and shift that baby on the fly! That would be totally cool! Least ways till the meat went flyin over the fence into the neighbors yard! Bet some them gears could be made to work though on a serious note, good Idear rich!
