Gateway Drum Smokers

I have built 10 drums and have been using a drum for the past 5 years. This past weekend was the first time I have seen a Gateway Drum. Looks very similar to the ones i build except for one thing the inner liner. 

Does anyone have a Gateway drum and if so could you explain the reason behind the inner liner and could you take some pics of it for me? I would like to try to duplicate it in my drums.

I'm interested too.  Is the liner thermally isolated from the outer drum so that the drum stays cool and you use less fuel, ie more efficient use of the heat?  Electric smokers like MES use that trick a lot--double-walled construction.

it looked like just a bit ash pan in the bottom but it cam about 1/3 of the way up the wall and was about 2-3 inches away from the outside wall.  i should of looked at it closer.  not sure how your draft from you air intakes work when that liner is up that high.

I assume there's lots of openings on the bottom for air to enter the fire area and enough gap at the bottom for the inlet air to enter there freely?  If so, the fact the sides are walled off is probably a secondary effect and it does then act as a heat shield between the hot inside and the rest of the drum. Sounds good to  me.
