hello folks, newbie here. I'm making a smoker out of a big stainless power box. I need some gasket material 1 inch wide and 1/4 inch thick that will stand up to 300 degrees of heat. Anybody know where I can find some?

Use wood stove door gasket materiel.  Its like a fiberglass rope glue it place with high temp silicone. Lay smoker on its back and glue in place.

bayoubuzz, ease over to Rool Call and let the others welcome you.

have fun and...

X2 on the roll call.  We would like to give you a big and proper welcome!

Also, with the search tool, you will find info with the stove gaskets and high temp sealers.

When you get to roll call, post up a pic of your smoker.  We have lots of fabricators here who can give you some expert opinions.

Good luck and good smoking.

First off welcome Buz to SMF. You'll like this place for there are alot of folks here that would just love to help you with just about anything to do with smoking meat. You will find alot of good recipes and techniques here also. so with all that said:

Welcome to your new Addiction

I'm lucky and have a gas store right down the road that carries just about anything I might need for a smoker.

Stove rope is the way to go. I found it was not available at the big box hardware stores in the length I needed. They only had kits with 5'-7' lengths included, but you might find more on a roll at a fireplace store in your area.

I found the length I needed on ebay for a decent price.

I just used two pieces of the rope gasket. Butt them together and it will be fine. My seam is about knee high on both sides and not a drop of smoke comes out.
