GARY'S TEXAS STYLE CHILI

  1. Kinda of a Chilly day here in East Texas  Pun Intended 
    Gary’s Texas Style Chili
     ​

    2 lbs - ground beef, ground for chili  (or you can use ½ Chili grind and ½ regular grind) or 2 lbs
    of any type good lean meat cut in very small pieces
     ​
    2 - (8 ounce) cans tomato sauce

    2 - cups water

    2 - teaspoons paprika

    1 or 2 teaspoons sugar

    4 - teaspoons cumin

    1 – tablespoon black pepper

    1 – tablespoon Tony’s

    3 - tablespoon dried onion flakes  or (½ finely chopped onion)

    1  - teaspoon garlic Powder

    1 - teaspoon salt  (more if you want)   Kinda salt to taste 

    ½ - cup chili powder  (More if you like)

    ½ to 1 - teaspoon ground red pepper  (depends on how hot you want it)

    1 – Jalapeño pepper  (Optional)  Seeded and chopped

    2 - tablespoons masa harina flour (Corn Flour)

    ¼ - cup hot water
    Directions:
    Brown beef and drain. (Note:) when the meat is about ½ way browned I add the onions

    and jalapeno pepper.

    Th        Then add paprika, cumin, onion, garlic powder, salt, sugar, chili powder, red pepper. black pepper and Tony's.  Mix well

    Add both cans of tomato sauce and water, again stirring well

    Simmer for 30 - 45 minutes, stirring occasionally.

    Dis          Dissolve 2  tablespoons masa flour into ½ cup hot water. (Note:) this is for thickening ) You can substitute corn starch.

    Add masa mixture to chili.

    Simmer for another 30 – 45 min.

    Some People add beans, Add them if you like, BUT THAT"S NOT REAL TEXAS CHILI !!!

                       

    You can throw in a couple more jalapeños while cooking if you want it really spicy

    Added tomato sauce and water, Simmering away

    That looks very tasty. I like the jalapeno. I always add one or two. It is cool here and I was thinking chili my self.

  5. Hello my friend.  Dog gone it I happen to like beans in my chili.  I KNOW!!  I hang my head in shame!!  [​IMG]   Looks like a great chili recipe.  One really good thing about living in England is that chili making weather lasts for a very long time.  Keep Smokin!

  7. Thanks Danny, just having fun, I think most people like beans in their chili.  Now it you go the Terlingua International Chili Cook-off -   Beans will get you dis-qualified

    Gary,

    Sure looks good.  Certainly a lot different than the Skyline chili I'm used to here in Cincinnati!  What you made is 'real' chili.

    That is a superb looking Texas chili. I like that style a lot , but I don't object to beans , either. One little tip I learned on food network is if you don't happen to have masa flour on hand , you can throw a handful of taco chips (like Tostitos) in the food processor and grind them up fine and use them the same way.
    I have tried this and it works well. Thanks for sharing that recipe , brother.

    Tasty looking chili!

    For some reason the mobile format is chopping off the left side of the recipe though, looks fine on the website though.
