Hi. NOT what you think!  I was planning on gathering up things to make a reverse flow smoker and I found a farmer that has a 250 gal LP tank on a trailer that he use to run his irrigation on.  Im going to look at it Saturday and it sounds like a heck of a deal, but Im not sure how to tell if its galvanized. I ask him and he said it was painted silver so it looked galvanized. Is there a fool proof way to tell?

 thanks in advance

Hello.  Welcome.  I see this is your first post.  Please take some time and swing over to Roll Call and introduce yourself so that we may give you a proper "Hello".  All info you can provide us with such as smoker type, location and so on will help us answer any questions you may have.  As for your question: WOW!!  I welded for almost 20 yrs. and I have never run across this one.  GREAT question.  Unless you heat it with a torch I am not sure there is a way to tell.  What I can tell you is that if that tank is galvanised it would be a surprise.  It is cost prohibitive.  I will PM some other folks and ask them to offer advice.  Keep Smokin!

Thanks for the fast reply!  I just intro'd after making this post,,,,,,, I knew there was something I was forgetting.   I know nothing about LP tanks so I thought I'd ask. I understand the importance of having safe equipment  from my other endeavors so thought Id just start there.

 Thanks
