Fundraiser weekend

Discussion in 'Pork' started by smokin peachey, Aug 10, 2017.

  1. I am doing a pulled pork fundraiser this weekend.

Last night I made my rub.

Tonight I picked up 54 butts.

Tomorrow evening we will be getting the butts ready. I am planning on putting them on around midnight tomorrow night and smoking them for about 16 hours.

Thats a lot of meat.   Where do you buy your butts.?

Thats great you cook for fundraisers.

  3. I typically get the meat from the local butcher but this time I got it at Sams. I don't know if I will ever get it at Sams again or not. I called and ordered it and when I went to pick it up last night they didn't have the order. They only had 3 cases so we had to get almost everything they had out in the cooler.

What kind of price did you get that many for? What kind of fundraiser and how much do you sell it for? Curious.

  6. We paid $1.51 a pound. The fundraiser is by donation.

Will all of those fit on your smoker at once? I believe it's 500 gallon right ?

What are y'all hoping make for the fundraiser? Good luck

  9. We got the pork trimmed and rubbed.

Sure makes it nice having help. We were done in an hour.

  10. Last year when we did this we raised over $9,000. We served around 450.

That's pretty good. Did you sell them whole or sandwiches? And did you sell tickets beforehand?

  12. Fire is started. Hopefully the rain will stop soon.

I had to get my 275 gallon smoker out of the barn to help with this one.

  13. Snacks are rubbed and ready.
    Brisket point

I have never done a rack of lamb so I thought I would try it.

    Rain??? It's not raining here.

  15. We do a meal with pulled pork, baked beans, coleslaw, chips, desserts and homemade ice cream. We don't do tickets so it makes it hard to know how many people to plan for. We always just make extra and what ever is left people are always willing to buy.

How did you seal your smoker? Paint then a clear coat or something else? Mine is almost done and I am debating what to do.

Gonna be a long night but looks like you have some company. Have fun. What kind of wood do you have access to up there in Pennsylvania?

  18. It poured here. Hopefully it stops soon. I am planning on loading up the cookers around midnight. I need to try to get some sleep.

Will all of those butts fit on your one smoker? I am having one built and it's about the same size as yours and was curious.

  20. I had help prepping and have help lined up to pull. It's hard to get help for the night shift.
I'm going to use some hickory, oak, cherry, apricot and apple.
