I was at the dog park to day with the hound, and got to talking to a guy about my smoker. He mentioned that he had an ECB electric that he had gotten as a gift a few years ago and has only used it a few times. He said it was going out in tomorrows trash because he was tired of looking at it.

Of course I promptly got his addy and stopped by after the dog was done playing to take it off of his hands.

Seems to be in good shape...element works...needs mods of course, and then there is the whole learning curve with regards to vertical electrics. I guess I will start with a good cleaning and reseasoning and go from there. I might just lose the element, and make it a charcoal smoker...not sure yet...propane has crossed my mind as well. Anywho, just thought I would report on my find. One mans loss is anothers gain.

Yeah, and now you gotta learn how to run two at one time! See how much extra work you just made for yourself? Gonna take some extra beverages to cover that one!

Congrats on the bargain. If you keep a fresh drink near each smoker, tending to both equally is rarely a problem !!!

or to cut costs ... add cup holders to each smoker!!

Joe - nice snag on the free ecb. I've got one that's fueled by charcoal and absolutely love it. Am anxious to hear what you think after the inaugural smoke.

I've got one of those and absolutely love it. This is much easier than the Charcoal one. The temps (as long as there is little wind involved) stay pretty even. I've done several briskets and they turned out great. Dont forget to use the water pan though. It keeps things nice and moist. The only mod that i would like to do is a thermostat.

Joe, forget about the mini-fridge, cup-holders etc. You buy the beer and I will watch second smoker. I feel the need to help my smoking brothers.

I just bought the exact same model put it on my porch and put two racks of ribs on it, a tin foil pack of hickory chips near the element, a pan full of water and drank beer for six hours as the probe thermometer never went over 235 and never went under 225. Granted I didn't get a smoke ring (told to add a charcoal or two to my pack), but it was the easist smoke I have ever done and I might add one of the tastiest. I plan on doing a brisket this saturday. I have two other charcoal smokers and the electric one is real nice if you have yard work to do or just some beer drinking without tending the fire every 45 minutes. I suspect you will turn out some real nice grub without much of a learning curve.
