Dave, morning.... As well insulated as that baby looks, you could heat it with a match..... If you are using an external smoke gen, you might try light bulbs on a rheostat.... the smoke gen will provide heat also...

That will make a beautiful smoker.... hot or cold.... would make a great chamber for salami too.....

There's my 2 cents.... Dave

I have a very similar fridge that I did a smoker build off of that I have running off propane and is thermostatically controlled with an auto ignite pilot light, here is a link to the thread I got my best info from while researching the project - http://www.smoked-meat.com/forum/showthread.php?t=1931

For me, living in North Dakota temperature's this smoker works best for me doing large sausage smokes in temps under 20º. What burner you decide to use should be based on your locations temperatures and what you plan on smoking in your smoker the most in my opinion.

The set up I have on my smoker will hold steady temps within a few degree's and as low as 100º.

onesonek,

That looks similar to my electric conversion fridge (still in progress). Just remember to read up here on the other threads about replacing any plastic parts and/or polyurethane insulation, and you should do fine.

I just happened to have a brand new burner for a Holland Grill when I was putting my smoker together, the burners in those grills come with a life time warranty you know...

Holland grill burner are solid cast iron, pretty much the same design of a burner turkey fryers use.

I'll into the Holland burner.

This is one I have been considering,,,,

http://www.thepartsbiz.com/Universa...eplacement-Cast-Iron-Burner-22501_p_7745.html

I'm guessing it's somewhere in the 30-40,000 BTU range, but I have an email off to mfg'r asking for sure.

I can control the flame somewhat with a needle valve, then hook it up to a gas vavle and thermostat,,,should do for cold er ambient temps. I smoke generator will likely be anough heat for most warm weather, as some suggested.

The smokgenerator, will be something like this, only with a electric hotplate under the wood/sawdust pan,,,

Then too, I may get a few other of the parts needed from there as well. Unless I can piece together the controller from elsewhere cheaper, it and some ohters will do.

Post lot's of pics.

For smoke generating I have tried the Big Kahuna made by Smoke Daddy and a few other various methods and have found for myself the best quality, consistent smoke I get from A-MAZE-N wood chip smoker and their pellet smoker. I have one of each and find myself using them where ever I want smoke. It is just a very simple concept that works and works well. http://www.amazenproducts.com/
