Ok so I was helping my parents clean their garage, and found my dad's old Brinkmann gourmet electric smoker. This thing is about 15 years old. Anyone know much about this brand? Is it a good one?

there are a few links online that''ll instruct on how to convert to a charcoal smoker.

If the cord and element look good fire it up and see what happens. Make sure you have some lava rock in the lower pan with the element and I'd skip the water pan if it has one. Plug it directly into the wall and it'll give you a nice low even heat, probably 200-220. My brother gave me one years ago and I knew nothing about smoking, so I just thought it was a defective grill.

The brinkmann gourmet is a pretty well designed smoker. Even tho it's old there's no reason for it to be junk. Like boat bum says , give it a look and see how it works. Could be a good find !

I had the same thing happen to me.  My dad had a Brinkman electric smoker that he never used.  I took it and made some great BBQ with ease.  I liked it so much that I just recently bought a Cookshack smoker.

Nothing wrong with the Brinkman.

It was FREE.....how bad can it be

Other than the dust where the shrink wrap was torn it looks brand new. Yeah I want to fire it up and check it out. Still trying to figure out my char-griller duo. But yes this was a nice find.
