I am wanting to get a food processor.

Would like one that can grind fresh spices and make hot dogs.

What do you have, wht do you like it and how easy is to clean??

Craig, for spices, get yourself a 'dedicated' Spice grinder(it's almost impossible to clean the Spices from the unit.I have a Coffee grinder to do my spices and as for the meat,a Kitchenaide or some Brand you like;unless you do a lot of grinding-then you should go to Bass Pro or a similar supplier.

Best answer I can come up with, good luck and...

I have found that the regulation size food processors don't do spices efficiently. It just whips them around and it takes a long time to get a fine grist. Unless your doing like a pound at a time or something. oldschool's way is the best way. You probably need something like this for hot doggin.

I have the Kitchenaid FP and it works great. Spices would be hard to do. As for hotdogs it would work for that but you would be doing smaller batches. I like the KA because of the torque it has and will make quick work of most things.

Thanks fellas!!

You can get a fine enough grind in a meat grinder for doing hot dogs, just grind three times through a fine plate and stuff 'em up!  Add enough water because the solids suck it up;  a couple batches and you'll get it down great!
Thanks pops!!  Got a recipe for Fassetts world famous all beef hot dogs??

just modified my post with the link, it was similar to sausagemaker's recipe in several respects.

I have this for a spice grinder.

I have an older rival FP, but I think this is the one that will replace it when I am ready.

As for the spice grinder I read somewhere to run white rice through it to clean it and you can use it for coffee, lucky for me I don't do coffee.

Yo Craig, I have a couple of $25 pulse grinders that are awesome for what your wanting, the brand is Krupp (pretty sure of sp) highly used by us that make our own powders. Kitchen store or target, khols etc.

Yup, just a plain cheapo coffee grinder for spices.  When done, throw in some rice and give it a few spins to clean out residual spices.  Wipe with a damp towel, and you are on your way.

Good luck and good smoking.

$1 yard sale coffee grinder is what I use for all my spices. Everything else goes into a Cuisinart food processor.

Spices I use my coffee grinder.

Works great on dried chile pods also.

Thanks fellas!!

I get a lot of stuff like this from amazon.

They have lots of reviews..prolly start looking at the coffee grinders.

I have a mill for when I roast coffee. It would be too hard to keep clean as the coffee is oily.

  Later!!

I have a Cuisinart food processor, I love it!!! I don't think I could live without. Cleaning is defiantly an issue, I buy a variety of brushes from the dollar store.
