Maui, Hi.
What is the reason people foil the length of wire from the meat probe to the sending unit of the meat thermometer?

Thanks in advance.

Easier to clean and some folks say it will extend the life of your probe by quite a large percentage.

Thanks for asking poidog...I've been wondering myself, but didn't have a clue. Thought maybe it was to protect the cable going through the vent.

Its to keep the high temps of your smoker from deteriorating the plastic sheathing of the wire, thus it will not become brittle and break. Plus it keeps the gunk,(drippings, juices, creosote ect) off the wire. And although I have not thought of it, pignit has a good idea as well. Wrap the wire where it exits the door on your smoker to prevent if from getting pinched.

Thanks too. I didn't have a clue myself about the foil but now I do and maybe I to will foil but pobably not. But I know why now.
