One day I'll remember to not stick my face in the smoker right when I open the door lol.

Anyway, I'm new to smoking and that's why I'm here-to learn. I have a secondhand masterbuilt-30 that I've tried a few times with mixed results because of a bad door thermometer grrr. A new thermometer is in the mail so that problem should be alleviated.

I'm glad to be here and I'll be doing tons of reading!

Hello and Welcome to our addiction.  A word of warning: There is no 12 step program for this one!  Many good folk here with a load of experience that they are more than willing to share.  If you have specific questions just start a thread and someone with experience will be along soon to offer advice.  All info you can provide us with such as smoker type, location and so on will help us answer any questions you may have.  Spend some time doing some research on the forums, tons of advice and recipes already available there. 

AHHHH; think I may have some bad news for ya.  That new therm will "probably" not be much better than the one you are using now.  The therms provided with smokers are NOTORIOUS for being wrong.  Test your new term, you may get a good one.  If not I suggest you look in to buying a Maverick dual probe.  Keep Smokin!

As I see it you've learned 2 valuable lessons already.

1.) Don't stick your face in the smoker as soon as you open the door while wearing glasses.

and

2.) Door thermos are notoriously inaccurate and are generally the weak link in any well thought out plan. A good probe thermo will be your best friend.

Keep smoking and please share your successes as well as your failures with the rest of the forum. It's the way we all learn from each other.
