First try at brisket desperately need help!!

  1. Hey guys I am in need of some much needed help. My son wants me to smoke a brisket for his birthday and to have it pulled. I am ashamed to say I don't know much of anything about briskets. What type of brisket should I try and buy to use? What style makes the best pulled brisket? I've seen numerous posts but I am still confused on what part is what and what is the right cut for pulled brisket? Thanks for any help with this everybody I really want to give him a good birthday dinner!! I am one worried dad!!

  2. Ufert, I have better luck with pork butts - generally larger pieces of meat and less expensive. I did two 8-lb butts last week on my Traeger and they were brilliant.

If he wants pulled beef, I say go with a chuck roast. Cheaper and easier. You can rub it with whatever you'd like and smoke it like you would a pork butt. There are some great posts on here that will give you all the right info. I have followed them and made some great pulled beef. Just search "Chuckies" in the search engine.

  4. Awesome thanks for the info and advice I will definitely check that out!!

  5. Or, ask why he wants it pulled instead of sliced... Show him some QView here... He might change his mind! [IMG]

buy a whole packer brisket and slice the point and chop the flat for "pulled brisket".

  7. That's what I will do geerock!!! That's the best of both worlds!! Good call
