Hello everyone and welcome from Illinois and new to here and smoking ought a 40" masterbuilt electric smoker and pretty excited about getting started.

Welcome to the forums.  Lots of great people with excellent advice (sometimes sprinkled with a little sarcasm) all in good fun.  You're in tremendous company, my friend.  Best of luck and have fun with it!

Thank you I have a question for you about the wood chips do I soak them or put them in dry

Dry. Never soak. Wet wood will only produce steam when introduced to a heat source. The water first has to evaporate before it will produce smoke. The only time you would ever want to soak wood is if you were grilling on a cedar plank or you were cooking something requiring bamboo skewers.

(And now for the east Texas local forecast)
