I got a lodge DO given to me by my father in law. It's a nice oven but it doesn't had the lid with the lip or any legs. It's a 12. But nice piece, so I'm trying it out today for the first time, making a stew. First I cleaned up the oven as it was used before. Wiped it down with veggie oil and put it on the grill for bout an hour. Than got my stew meat all cut up, just some beef roast. Wish it was deer but haven't got one yet this year. I got the oven on the grill and put a good helping of oil in. Floured the meat and browned it. The meat was kind of mushy? So I browned it the best I could, still kind of mush, than poured some beef broth in. It kind of took the mush off the meat and made like a gravy. Also poured a half a beer in. And drank the other half of course. While that was cooking I threw a stick of butter in cast iron skillet and sautéed some veggies.. Carrots, celery, asparagus heads.. I should have done the onions with this but didn't. Put that all in with meat. Then threw in some onions, and potatoes, and a can of corn. Then I added some spices, garlic powder..chile powder..cumin..salt&pepper. Looks like stew and smells like stew so far. Give it some time and I'll let you know how it is.
