Finally got into smoking after years of sitting on the sidelines! I bought a propane smoker from Lowes on a Labor Day sale and am hooked! Hopefully I will be able to work out the bugs after a few tries and have some quality Q on the table. I live in Louisiana, so smoking should be year round. I have been homebrewing beer for the past 7 years, so the two should mesh nicely. Nothing like smoked brisket and homebrewed beer on a Sat evening!

I am a Major in the USAF and have been flying B-52's for nearly 10 years. I enjoying riding my Triumph motorcycle to BBQ restaurants both near and far from home station at Barksdale AFB, LA. Here are some of my favorites:

    Favorite style: Texas Beef Brisket
Favorite Restaurant: Cooper's Pit BBQ in Llano, TX
    Honorable Mentions:
    Dreamland Ribs, Tuscaloosa, AL
Hamond's Chicken, Outside San Antonio, TX
Hard 8, Stephenville, TX (also has Dublin Dr. Pepper made with pure cane sugar on tap!)
Favorite motorcycle road: Highway 337 in the Austin hill Country of TX.
Favorite Tex Mex: Beef Fajitas at Superior Bar and Grill in Shreveport, LA

Thanks for any advice you can give on making better Q!

    Dave

Thanks, all, for the great welcome and your support of our military! I will definitely check out the e-course and try to learn everything I can about my new smoker. It is a BBQ Grillware vertical gas smoker with a good size chip box and water bowl. Made a great chicken the other night, but there's definitely room for improvement. I'm sure it's a skill that continues to improve over time! I think I will try another chicken tomorrow. They just don't seem to last very long...

I started out with a Sunbeam gas grill and bought a Charbroil LP grill last summer. Makes a great piece of meat. Also have a turkey fryer that doubles as a beer boiler. Wife doesn't care for the growing number of cooking implements on the back porch, but at least they are not in the kitchen. "Honestly, honey, this will be the last thing I need..."

Good hearing from everybody and yes, I am a Bob and Tom Fan. Those guys rock.

    Dave
