I am smoking for my first time tomorrow and i am doing 2 eight pound Boston butts on my charcoal smoker. I know the rule of thumb is 1 1/2 per pound for cook time time. Would that also apply to two separate roasts? I know cook time varries,i am just trying to get a general idea on how long i should expect them to be in the smoker. Also any advice would be welcomed.

I did two 9lb. butts a few weeks ago and they took about 14-15 hours. They have a mind of their own. The smaller of the two butts took longer by 1-hour. Go figure. You just never know. I only lifted the cover about three times to spray. I start very early like 4am. Plan on having pizza for supper that night....just saying...
