Hey SMF Fam-

I've been a long time lurker on SMF and have learned a ton from everyone on here. As well as learned from my own trial an error.

For years I've wanted to try and smoke my own bacon and finally pulled the trigger. During which I've felt a calling to the World Wide Web that I owed a DIY'er lol. So ladies and gentlemen here is my first DIY video (curing pork belly) I've ever made...I welcome any critique...good or bad. The pork belly is still on its second day of flipping/curing. Once that done I'll have a part 2.

Nice start on the bacon!

I embeded the video in your post, because we don't allow YouTube links on here.

Did you have to soak the belly to remove excess salt?
Roger

I'm no expert, but I'm going to rinse the belly, cut off a slice, cook it and if it's to salty I will then soak it in water to remove some of the saltiness. If it's not to salty I'll just dry it overnight in the frig before I smoke it. I'm going to make a PT 2 video that shows the details.

Any experts please chime in.

Looks like a Great Start, LB !!

Here is part 2...

This video shows how to prep the pork belly for the official smoking process.

The smoke should go down today, this is my biggest concern on the whole process. But again this is just a trial and error. Wish me luck.

Part 3 Final.
