Greetings all! HAPPY NEW YEAR!
I' am an avid hunter (including bow and gun) , regular and ice fisherman/ (lady) whatever! My husband loves my outdoor exploits and kitchen talents. I am the lioness who brings home the kill. Yes , I do from field to table and he does the rest..(eating) lol :) I live in the northern plains , so we get pretty "cool" up here. :) I am fairly new to the world of smoking , curing ... ect. I am well set up with the two types of cure and my spice cabinet is a trip around the world. I have done several small items with my own season creations with such treats as pheasant , venison , pork , even lamb , although very basic they turned out pretty good. Jerky is a given , of course done in the dryer and not the smoker....yet. :) Was recently taught how to smoke bellies for bacon in a very large home made contraption . THAT turned out fabulous! Always willing to learn and to try new experiments. Now to try it on my own someday! (Good luck to me)
What I have for equipment is pretty basic , an off set smoker , a basic Weber grill , and of course one of those top load Big Chiefs , gifted to me by someone ( which I had for 11 years ,never opened , only recently resurrecting it out of the box with my new found curiosity for smaller experiments). Hoping to give smoking Northern Pike a try. A fabulous and very underappreciated fish! One day I would be keen to take a whack at dry aging too. :) Always willing to learn!
