Ok, I am going to start my first build and I had a question.  Have any of you had any experience/opinions about the plans/service from that smoker plans dot net place?  I have secured my chamber already and it is a 156 Gallon propane tank.  They don't have plans for that but say they can make them up.  Anyway, what are your guys thoughts on the subject??

There are lots of builds here. I dont know if anyone has used that site or not. I'd be willing to bet you could build it without the site plans with help form all the great people here. I did a quick search for propane tank builds and returned a bunch of info. here's a link

The search bar at the top of the page will return a ton of info. I didn't see any using your exact  tank size but there are several very close. worth checking out at least.

There's a lot of builders on here who will be able to walk you through your build. I'm not one of them, but I'm sure one will be along shortly.

Now there's a whole section here about different smoker builds.

You can utilize those plans if you want but there are plenty of us who have built our own that you probably won't need them. Since you have posted in the RF section, I am assuming you want to build a Reverse Flow. What other features would you like your future smoker to have?

Yes, I definitely want to build a RF.  I have no experience using them, but like the design and from the research I have done it sounds like the best to me (just my opinion).  This will also be my first Charcoal/Wood Fire smoker as well, as up until now I have been using a propane smoker.  So as far as features go, I am not entirely sure because of my limited experience.  I would like it to be as easy as possible to control and maintain temperature.  That is one of the main reasons I wanted to use a propane tank, because of the thicker metal.  I will probably use some sort of device at some point to help maintain temperature, but I would also like to play around/learn to do it without the devices as well.  As far as other options go, what are some of the things that you boys wish you would have or shouldn't have done??  Right now I am just an inexperienced sponge, ready to soak up info/advice.  That was one of the reasons I had thought of using the plans for my first one, because of my inexperience.  It just says build this lol  Any help would be greatly appreciated!

I am pretty happy with ours other than having to feed it all night long. A propane assist would be a very nice feature and one I am looking to add to ours.

Best place to start is with the various smoker calculators online.  They are excell sheets that you plug in your information, and it will tell you what you need as for size of firebox, and diameter and length of stack..  ect. This will give you an idea of where to start.  The rest of the information you need, you can easily get from previous posts in this forum.  A  lot of great builds to be found here!
