Did my first smoke ever today using the beer can chicken recipe on virtual weber bullets website. Just got my 18.5 WSM as an early Christmas present and got to break it in.
Heres the birds roosted on their cans.
Used the minion method with 20 lit coals to get everything started. It took over 45 minutes for the smoker to reach 225. I thought that was a little long but it didn't really matter because once it hit 225 I backed down the vents and it cruised at 240 the entire smoke with barely any fluctuations except when I raised the lid to sprits some apple cider vinegar on the chickens. Temp spiked a little then but got back under control pretty easily.
A little TBS.
Used 4 chunks of hickory and a full water pan.
Not sure what happened to the bird on the left. His wing mysteriously disappeared before I could get a picture.
3.5 hours later the finished product was delicious and everyone in the family was happy with that results. All in all it was a very positive experience for me finally getting to smoke something and being successful with it was a plus. Cant wait to try a butt soon and pull some pork.
