Fire Box Lower Air Inlet Idea

  1. I have two salmon filets brining, two 2+ lb. rib eye steaks salting and just started my fire in the smoker. Hmmmm, looking forward to dinner! The smoked steaks will be a first for me.

I took a few pictures of my somewhat recently installed air director for my lower air inlet vent on my firebox. It seems to work well. I think I may want to install a couple more upper vents to keep things cool when needed.

Picture below is my FB door with the rotating upper inlet vent and the sliding lower air inlet vent. Ten left end of the lower vent is "V" shaped to allow fine-tuning the opening when you want only a very small amount of air to enter FB.

Pic below is with lower air vent wide open.

Pic below shows lower air vent air director plate - it extends from the inside door to the fire grate.

Here you can see that the lower air vent is roughly centered on the desired airflow path from the vent to below the fire.

Below you can see the air director/grate relationship.

I hadn't seen anything like this before, so I thought I'd share. It seems to do a good job directing the air exactly where I want it!
