Hey yall Ive been reading through the forums for awhile now and figured I join. There is a ton of good info here with like minded people needless to say I'm glad I ran across it! Alright so I decided awhile ago I wanted to build a smoker, one that fit my needs. I told my self before I do that I need to smoke consistently or do if frequently enough where a nice smoker would get used instead of sit and rust. So I put in the time, wore my little red weber smoker out and made some good briskets and butts. I lucked out because my supervisor let me build it during breaks at work and if it was in the scrap rack I could use it. My idea was to make a smoker that consumed less fuel and was large enough to cook two full size briskets by hanging, two racks of ribs, house three trays and be able to grill/sear if needed. Of course not all at once. So i did just that on the bottom i put a drop box for coals which one of the grates can sit over for grilling it features a side vent. When im not using it for grilling just smoking the drip pan sits in the coal box. Then there are three spaces for shelves and four hooks at the top. I burned an painted it last weekend with no food. It held 230 on the money for atleast three hours on four chunks of hickory and no coals. Im very satisfied with it considering its my first build. There are somethings I could've done different but that knowledge will serve me well on the next one. Enjoy!
