Finished Birds compared to Kingsford blue and lump w/ my trusty taste tester w/Qview

    I started a different thread about how Kingsford blue bag does not burn as hot as lump for smokin' turkey and beer butt chicken. I wanted a quick smoke, all I had was blue bag so I estimate it took 2.5 hours longer with blue bag compared to lump.

    If you want constant temps I'd go with blue bag. Had the birds on a 22" WSM, the 3 bottom vents 100% open and top vent 100% open, averaged 225* the whole time and the ring was full, and a full load of lit briquette's from the charcoal chimney, outside temp 20* or so.  I'll stick with lump for birds, not sure about butts and brisket and ribs.

    Yeah, guardian cats are very protective of their territory.  I ought to know, we've got two.  Oh, great looking birds by the way.  Now, what about the turkey?

    The first two pics look like they have thousands of ants all over them, so maybe you should send them to me for disposal!

    Lump will kick the beJesus out of Kingsford every time. Burns hotter, lasts longer, a third less ash, and Royal Oak lump comes in a prettier bag. [​IMG]

    I don't have any trouble getting 300 degrees on my WSM with K blue. Course I live in Florida.

    Well they look fantastic..... I know the skin probably didn't work out, but it looks like the meat turned out awesome.... juicy and even a smoke ring!

    As earlier mentioned, yes, I've had want of doing a BBC for weeks, but my own loyal taste-tester is my cat, too.

    Nah Terry, thats how he was born butt that is fur.

    Seriously, all I did was use Tip's slaughter house brine, no spritzing, no butter, no oil. To be honest I was amazed at the color, tasted good too!!!!
