    Hey guys!

been reading about everyone's builds on here and figured it was time for me to upgrade and go a bit bigger. So i've been looking around and calling around and finally found my tank! 120 gal tank 5'7" long and 24" diamiter. I'm going to build a nice fire box w/ warmer (no sure yet on the warmer) and trailer mount her just for ease of moving her around.

I filled her up with soap and water to get what ever was left in her out. Letting it sit over night so tomorrow begins the prep!

Also after many people said how much they like there Maverick Thermometers i went ahead and picked up a ET-73!
(sorry for the crappy pick cell phone)

Does anyone have a suggested thinkness for the plate to build the firebox and warmer out of? I was thinking 1/8" or 1/4" plate?

That should make a nice one. Used a 20 inch diameter tank for mine and I reaqlly wish I had been able to find a 24 inch one.
Most of fireboxes I've seen on custom builds have all been 1/4 inch to 1/2 inch walls. I did mine with 3/16 plate cause that's all I had access to.
Maybe someone else can chime in in with more knowledge than I but I think the colder the area you live in, the thicker the walls you'd want for better heat retension.

Looks like a great plan. I would use at least 1/4 inch for the firebox. The thicker the better.

I've been soaking my tank with soap and water to help get the rotten egg smell from the propain out of the tank, before I cut here open and do 1 or 2 good burn outs.

So while the tank is doing its thing i have been working on the trailer to get the rust off and rebuild the suspention.

    Some photos:

The trailer up on apple box's so i can grind off the rust and see if there are any bad welds or rust holes that need to be fixed. Also a pic of my Millermatic 210 w/ Spoilamatic. Great welder, have done up to 1/2" plate with her can no problems!

A little blury but youcan see the rust. No worrys though i have the tools!

Welded on a piece of 2" angle to help add strengt as well as replace the old piece of sheet metal were the jack stand was. going to replace the top piece, add a new jack and chains.

Sandblasted, primered, and put in new bushings in the springs. Leaving primer colored for now. I'm thinking that once i put it allback together w/ new bolts of flipping the axle to get a few more inches out of the trailer so i could one day add taller tires. What do you guys think?

Flipped over to start the top build. i ran 2 pieces of 2" angle (b/c i have tons at my shop) so i can help to distribute the weight of the tank across the 3 beams.

I'm hoping to get the suspention back on her and the tank put on over the weekend so monday i can go to my buddys shop and borrow his plasma cutter to do all the cutting. I know i'm not that good w/ the torch and the angle grinder would take for ever.

Ifany one has any suggestions let me know. kind of my first smoker build so learning as i go!
  13. I have several tanks and want to do a couple myself. Be nice to hear and see how your build goes!

Well the projects coming alone. I got the trailer all fixed up and soaked the tank w/ water for a few weeks to help get ride of the smell. But i finally got it mounted to the trailer. I have a bunch of pics of me rebuilding the trailer and painting it but its kind of boring. So i'll just show u guys the tank mounted on the trailer!
