Hi everyone Ive been smoking birds and fish for around 15 yrs ..just did my first 2 briskets this summer and there were no leftovers  I have been getting into more rubs and less marinades and really excited about the site and all the info here..definatley expanding my horizons...Have a Masterbilt digital smoker and been using them for the last 10 years approx.had a charcoal one before that rusted out on me ......Electric is great except at Christmas and 0 temps...im gonna shut up and pay attention   Its nice meeting you all   GregAKAGarlic Boy

Greg, morning..... Hey..... do you grow garlic commercially.... I used to do that.... got to be too much for this old man to grow 5,000 plants with no help.... now I grow about 500 plants in the garden....

That's still a lot of garlic I have garlic I gues is wild it comes back every year been there for years would not even know where to begin to harvest it and not sure if it would come back every year if I did. But we love it

Dave   good to meet you...I do not grow commercially. but i have been dialing in my crop for about 13 years ..I grow usually 15 varieties that i get from a few organic garlic farms around Madison Wi.mostly hardnecks...I love the really big cloves and was surprised withe this last crop..I harvest usually the middle of July.i rotate some varieties and allways keep my best 8 for the next year and usually purchase 7 new for the next year...Maybe i can pick your brain on any tips you might have...sounds like you have worked hard on your crops over the years  once again itts a pleasure to meet you Dave

I grow 5-6 varieties.... cull a few and buy more..... selectively plant the largest cloves to improve the harvest.... just screwing around basically....

Hey Hank !

Sorry i didnt get back sooner  have been out of town at a muskie tournament....Sounds like you got a set up with the garlic growing wild....I plant my garlic here in October and it winters over and comes up in the spring..I fertilize and weed and watch it grow...when it flowers ( and not all varieties do ) they are called scapes...and i cut them off to prevent the flower from taking energy from the bulb  went the leaves at the base turn brown its time to pull the garlic...I deal with a few garlic farms in Madison Wis. basically because the garlic is growing in the same conditions climate wise As far as planting and prep a great gauge  or reference is at Keene organics.com  They explain the whole season quite well and after you pull it too  Good luck and if you have any more ?s let me know  Great to know you  Greg aka Garlicguy

Greg... Doing well thanks.... Not to sure about this winters garlic crop... Our irrigation water has been cut off... we have had no rain and the reservoir is very low.. about 1/2 the water of average.. 5" rainfall is not much... then all the fires we've had...
