Hello all,
I have a GOSM and have used it for a year now. I really do like it. I am now thinking that it would be nice to have a smoker that isn't gas powered. I like the idea of a horizontal unit with the side fire box. I saw some beautiful units today at the competition in DesMoines-Horizons. I don't want to spend that kind of money. I don't weld so I can't make my own. I was wondering can a guy get something decent without spending an arm and a leg? Any brand and models you'd recommend.

There are a lot of Chargrill fans here, $150, a few simple mods and you are ready to go. A big step up in price to the next unit up. Good luck

i have a chargriller pro with mods and love it with the mods spent a total including the mods $210.00 great price for a beginners smoker. im now getting ready to have my trailer tank cut to build a BIG reverse flow! cant wait for the trailer. ill be using the ole chargriller in a friendly little competition in carson city next weekend against a friend at the carson city rendezvous if anyone wants to see first hand the mods ill be more than happy to share!

For the same reason, I asked a similar question this morning and a forum member offered up the Brinkmann Smoke N' Pit to consider. Paging Mr. Rivet.....

My wife bought me a Brinkmann Smoke N' Pit and paid $200 for it during a sale at Ace Hardware. I have put in $140 worth of mods in it to make it what I believe is "just right". It's a lot of fun.

I had a Brinkman SNP for quite a few years & cooked lots of good stuff on it. I now have a CG w/SFB. I like the CG better. A couple of reasons are the cast iron cooking grates & the adjustable charcoal tray that also serves as a baffle when flipped.

Another vote for the CGSP here. Pretty good unit for the price. I've been quite happy with mine
