Electric Heating Element

    I just got my "new" old fridge today. I have been reading alot online about building a fridge smoker. I picked it up today and was reading online and came accross this forum.

    I pretty much have everything mapped out what I want to do. However, I am not very good with electrical things.

    I want to use a 2000w or 2500w electrical stove element to create my heat and smoke. I was wondering if anyone had a diagram of deatiled instructions on how to take down/install a stove electrical element.

    Heating elements are easy - apply power. 

    At those power levels you are going to need to power it with 220vac, which means having a 220v outlet outside your house. Which means hiring an electrician, since you're asking. 

    I am a n00b so i don't know if you need that level of power or not. Since this is an insulated enclosure i wonder if a 1500w 110v element may be plenty for you. Try searching this forum for more info there.

    I used  the same thing u r going to use on mine.  Buy a burner block an pan from Lowes or Menards.  Build a false bottom in ur smoker also by a burner pan.  Cut hole in false bottom for burner pan and mount.  I built my own PID unit buying parts from Auber not spelled right.

    I'm going to be making an electric smoker out of an old ice box. I was wondering how hot your smoker gets and how big is you smoker? Thank you
  6. i am building an electric smoker out of a stainless still refrig going to use a universal element with controls built in what is a good way to keep the drippings from getting on the element so i dont have to wory about fires
