I think ECB's  are a good smoker for people starting out. They get a Bad Wrap, but what do expect for $69 or $79 bucks.

The positive thing about an ECB, besides being cheap, is whoever buys one will learn how to smoke. They are pretty labor intensive, They don't hold heat very well, limited on space, weather is a huge factor, and unless you do some mods, you pretty well don't have any way of regulating anything. BUT !!!!   it will make you a better smoker because of all the faults..

I tend to agree.  Sometimes I get smoker envy looking at more expensive set-it-and-forget-it rigs, but then I think, "Well, where's the fun in that?"  With an ECB, smoking isn't just a means of cooking food, it's an activity.  Doing the mods is half the fun, too.

I agree. I enjoy building smokers almost as much as smoking. I said almost !!!

I love to tinker around with stuff, and I think I've had more fun this summer working on my old Meco 5000 (an ECB look alike) than I've had in years!

Just added a rope gasket to the lid last night. Going to try it out on a pork shoulder tomorrow!

Made my own chimney starter, too.

This forum has been a WEALTH of info!

Thanks

Scott
That's a pretty cool chimney starter. Might even be worthy of it's own thread! (Not too mention that franken-burner your running there... LOL. Not everyone is cut out to smoke with an ECB. If you can conquer an ECB you can operate any smoker known to man!

I am glad to see people looking at this ECB post   For under a hundred bucks you can have a very good smoker
