Dumb Thermometer Question

Discussion in 'Meat Thermometers' started by whisky, Apr 5, 2009.

  1. I've been looking at the links for the remote thermometers and have a question concerning the wire from the probe to the transmitter. I have a MES that has a seal like a refrigerator on the door. Do you just close the door on the wire and hope it seals or.....?

    Thanks![IMG][IMG]

That's not a dumb question at all. While I don't have an MES, I'd say yes, just run the wire outside the door and latch it. It'll seal well enough. Happy Smokes!

You want to be careful about closing the probe wires in the door of your smoker. If you crimp the wires too much they will break and the thermo will stop working.

I believe the MES users run the temp probe wires through the top vent -- but I don't have an MES so I am just guessing.

if your door seal is soft it wont damange leads just make sure you dont crimp or smash them. if soft seal it will seal ok no problem.

either top vent or drill a small hole in the side-won't effect anything.no questions are dumb in here, just some answers! and ya you don't want to pinch your wires.

Just as a side note, you could also add a length of heat shrink tubing over the probe wire where it will make contact with the door seal for added protection.

  7. Gadzooks, why didn't I think of that?

I also like the idea of shrink wrap tubing where the probe wires touch any metal.

    Thanks guys!
