Picked up a 6.25lb butt today and I'm considering smoking only half of it tomorrow (along with a slab of baby backs). Aside from cooking times, is there any difference in smoking a 3 pounder vs. a 6 pounder?

There will be no difference in the overall smoke but why not just cook the whole thing and freeze the leftovers, that stuff is just as tasty (arguably better) as when you freshly smoked it.

You're not going to save any time by cutting it in half.

Time for an update. Its been in for 11.5 hours and is up to 190 degrees. Does this seem a little strange for a 3.5 lb butt? I wrapped it at 180 and it has picked up 10 degrees in about an hour, gaining temp much faster now. It seemed to stall out for a loooong time in the 155 - 159 range. Never thought this would be a 12+ hour smoke, hope its good.

Ok it's tomorrow and I'm still looking for the butt.??????
