An electric smoker to cook/smoke sausages is in my near future most definitely and I'm considering Masterbuilt as an entry level unit even though the internet is packed with issues and complaints about them.

Having said that, they still seem to have a loyal following.

Your comments about this unit are most welcome. I'm assuming this is one of their  newer models and some if not all of previous issues have been resolved.

kevin, your wide body is lookin' good and is right up there with the electric unit.

I have really enjoyed mine but I have not had any problems with mine.  The down side of mine (one of the earlier models) is the hot spot in the back right corner but a ceramic tile seems to have corrected that issue.  Those who have had problems seem to have had very good support from Masterbuilt.

They are great for smoking sausages at low temps with the AMNPS pellet smoker.

UpInFlames, would you update your profile info to include your location. Thanks!

Have owned my MES 40 for around 3 years. It is one of the older models and i did have to do the wiring fix after maybe a year .

Other than that i feel i can smoke anything in it that one could do in any other smoker (except maybe whole hog)

i think that the hot spot is just from the way the unit is designed and it is what it is.

I have cold  smoked bacon ,Sausage and cheese in the MES w/ a tin can ,soldering iron and wood chips .

Hot smoked pretty much anything . For the Money you spend it is a great unit and will give you many years of good smokes.

Bought my first smoker a year ago at Sam's, just found out though it's MES40 (my receipt says 30). I absolutely love it. I do a lot of wild game jerky at the lower temps (under 180*), also cold smoke cheese, eggs, bacon etc-using the soldering iron/tin can for smoke. Certainly can't complain.

Love my MES! I bought the 30, and of course wish it were the 40. The 40 will especially be useful for smoking sausage. I wouldn't worry about the purchase, there are a ton of happy MES owners here.
