does anyone else have a love/hate relationship with their smoker?

today i hate mine and the smoker gods were not nice. first i learned the hard way that my Guru wifi is not waterproof. then the smoker has been running cool so i shake the ash and realize that with all the rain we got a little while ago there was water in the bottom of my WSM. today is just not my day and i was hoping to smoke at a nice 250-260 and get it done during the day and now the smoker is finally back up to about 225 so it's going to be well into the night when it comes out.

the guru i can send back and they will repair it so that is not big deal just more money.

the water in the bottom i got out and i will just have to clean the damn thing later.

about the pork butts? should i put them in a steamer pan wrap and into the oven? at 275 till done? or just leave them on the smoker till they are done?

Bump up the temps to 275° foil at 165° internal and sit back and relax, you should be able to make up for lost time, don't be afraid to run even hotter if foiled..

Anyhow this is assuming your smoking Butts only.

my WSM will not go that hot. i can barley get it to go to 260 and that is about it's max and will not stay there for very long.

Yesterday i was smoking and i got hit with a rain squall  that came out of no where while i had my new pitmaster iq going which can't get wet. Thank goodness i just finished this rain box...keeps rain, snow and wind out of the equation.    I have a guru also but i liked the idea of something i could weather proof.

I had such a relationship with my Big Chief electric smoker.  Now that I 've installed a 750 watt element which is adjustable via a thermostat, it might become pure love.  Will find out this weekend.

i think i am just going to have to do something with an ezup and a welding blanket. because i have great q in the end but this is a lot of work and almost hassle.

Can you give us some details, maybe with pictures, on how you operate your WSM?

Something is definitely not right. If I can't help you, I'm sure one or more of the experienced WSM owners will.

First time I ever used my new smoker, Ribs 3 2 1 method, not but an hour after I started it started to rain.  I put 2 patio chairs either side, threw a tarp over smoker and chairs, kept everything pretty dry.  Rained on and off till done smoking, put on and removed the tarp probably 6 times, only to have to put back on.  Chair heights were higher than the smoker, this kept tarp off of smoker.
