Well folks - this post is a tribute to "Doing Something with almost Nothing"

I enjoyed a California vacation with the family hitting Disney, Disney Adventure, Maddam Tussou's Wax Museum, G's Chinese Theater, Six Flags, and Hermosa/Redondo/Huntington beaches.

We got fricking tired of eating out, so I "Grilled" them some burgers at the hotel using some good o'l Ralphs aluminum pans, Choice Hotel's salt and pepper packets, and a little shot of italian dressing. Maybe six day's of restraunt food...maybe I DID do a good job....definitely damn good burgers!

As I was doing this, I thought of the many, many posts I've seen where all of us have had to improvise... so this to all of US!

Gotta say the guacamole we made with the fresh California avacados was outta this world.

Thanks for checking out my vacation post.

Now I have been staying in hotels for work lately and we have a small grill that I carry along with us. My helper calls it "grillin on the stoup dog". Now we have had some good things and I haven't thought abut the Qview but maybe next time we go our of town I'll try to get the camera. Now my helper also says he eats better in the hotle then he does when he's home. We have made some different things like the fatties, grilled goat ribs (thanks to Jeff) and stuffed peppers, some country style ribs and even grilled fresh tuna. Now the next thime we go out I'm thinking of looking hard at Cowgirls list of recipes for if she can cook it on a tire rim I should be able to do something on a grill.

That is AWESOME!!! It just goes to show a good cook can make a meal out of nothing! My wife always gets made when I make something tasty, when the cupboards were bare hehe...I call it the "Ray Pulls it out of his Arse" meal....

Hats off to you for using not only nothing...but not even really having the cookware to do it!!! hhe

    I love it!

Nice looking burgers! I am heading down to Disney with the family on the 21st (just 2 weeks away!). Unfortunately our hotel doesn't have a stove in it..... but if Richoso is that close I might have to show up on his door step with a plate and fork.... lol...  [IMG]

.... Richoso1... man, I'm sorry I missed that opportunity.  I've caught hell from a few members for not looking them up.  To be honest, I never even thought about it.  [email protected]# Poor planning on my part.  The kids tell me we will be back, so look out!

Way to go, BD Ray!  Thank you very much.

JIRod - you gotta check out the tri-tips... One thought I had was to buy one... drive around to a hotel/condo/apartment building that had a grill, roll in and act like I knew what I was doing, and COOK THAT BAD BOY!!!  I've never seen Tri-Tips at such a good price, or such high quality.  Don't know where the locals shop, but we were next to Ralphs.

Guess I shouldn't have expected less from the Home Of the Tri-Tip!

Thanks for all the kind comments.

The best carne asada diinner I've had to date was at the Sunset Casino, in that nice mexican restuarant. It was the bomb, but I'm sure you've know that for sometime.

Great post to remind us that it isn't all about spices, rubs and garnishes; sometimes it is the cooking method and tools we have available. Thanks for posting WALLE and you can cook for me anytime !!!
